Differences Between Arkaos Products - DMX Support Only?

Postby BleedingEdgeProductions » Tue Jan 27, 2009 3:23 am

Hi everyone,

I am new to Arkaos and looking at purchasing one of the products. I will be using it to trigger videos and video transitions during a live performance.

I am under the impression that the main difference between Arkaos VJ and GrandVJ is essentially that Arkaos VJ has DMX support. Is this right? I have the option of triggering via either DMX or MIDI notes from the Hog 3 desk, so I am guessing that either product will do.

Is there really that much price difference to add DMX support, or am I missing something fundamental?

Thanks!

I recommend GrandVJ if you don't need full DMX control (ie use as a fixture anywhere on the DMX chain). Its missing a few features that Arkaos VJ has, such as;
event recording
dv output
render to video file
alpha channels

But, apparently some of these are just an update away.

It's a lot more powerful than the pricetag would indicate (comparatively). :D

Excellent. Thanks very much. I have no need for DMX control, being able to trigger via MIDI notes.

Looking at the demos, I am more immediately "comfortable" with GrandVJ too... It seems more intuitive.

Cheers,
