Workstation vs Gaming cards

I'm looking at moving from high-end gaming gfx cards to workstation gfx for my servers.
I'm sold on some of the features (framelocking multiple systems, firepro's SDI-link, etc) but i'm not sure how much of a performance gain/loss I'll get running a DirectX app like mediamaster.

Any ideas? They're not cheap cards, so any help would be appreciated. I don't want to go out and buy one just for testing.

<edit> Perhaps industry professionals like nick c, or arkaos moderators could jump in on this please? Noticed on facebook page that dev staff were given an AMD FirePro W9000 for testing in September. Has this card been tested with MediaMaster software yet?
