Hot Key Control Problem

For the last 3 years I have been successfully using Arkaos 3.6 triggered from "Alien Apparatus Solo Performer Show Control" via hotkey commands on an old G4 ibook. I have now upgraded to a Macbook Pro running Lion and 3.6 is not supported. I have installed GrandVJ 1.6.5 demo to check its functionality before buying. My problem is that GrandVJ does not seem to be receiving the hot key commands. SPSC is sending the commands (then returning to the front) but GrandVJ is not reacting so I presume it is not receiving the command. Does any one know if it is possible to control VJ in this way or am I missing something?
